The Acceleration of a Falling Body is 9.8 Meters Per Second Per
Second
by Spencer Kayden
If shame and this feather
Were dropped
From the top of potential
It is said they will fall
At the same velocity
Although I can't imagine
They will hit the ground at the
Same time
You promise they will as you
Dangle them over the ledge of perhaps.
My neck aches in constant anticipation
As I watch your experiment
Anxiously from below.
It is only when I use my
Unbeguiling binoculars
That I can see how angry
Your knuckles are.
What kind of lengthy preparation
Is required that takes you
So very long
To release the feather that I plucked
From expectation and the shame
I carved from my gut.
As I beg you to drop them
But my voice is carried away
By the wind of common practice
And by the time my message
Reaches you it sounds like
A love letter.
